This site is built to be exceptionally easy to read and use - particularly for people in their 60s, 70s and 80s, who make up much of who we serve.
We’ve designed this website with older readers specifically in mind, since many of the people who use it are managing hearing loss and may also be managing changes in eyesight or dexterity.
Body text is never smaller than 18px, and is 20px by default – there is no small print anywhere on this site. Buttons and form fields are large (60px tall) with clear, bold labels, and nothing clickable is smaller than 44px in either direction. Colour is never the only way we signal something – links are underlined, and error messages are written out in words, not just shown in colour. All navigation is visible upfront; nothing important is hidden behind a hover effect. Every interactive element shows a clear, visible focus outline when navigated to by keyboard. Text and background colour combinations throughout the site meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast standards, and in most cases WCAG AAA.
Accessibility is something we keep working on, not a box we’ve ticked once. If you find anything on this site difficult to use or access, please tell us – we take this seriously and will look into it.
If you experience any accessibility barriers on this site, or need information in a different format, please call us on 0800 915 3588 or get in touch via our Contact page.
